Cognitive Assessment

Gifted & cognitive (IQ) testing

Standardized cognitive testing for children seeking gifted identification or school placement — and for adults who want a clear picture of their cognitive profile. Each evaluation is conducted personally by a licensed psychologist, using validated measures and a thoughtful, plain-language interpretation.

What it is & who it's for

A clear measure of cognitive strengths

This is a comprehensive cognitive evaluation by a licensed psychologist using standardized IQ measures. It looks at reasoning, verbal and visual-spatial ability, working memory, and processing speed — producing a profile that supports gifted identification, placement decisions, and a deeper understanding of how a person learns. It's an assessment, not a predetermined result.

This may be a good fit if you:

  • Are a parent seeking gifted-program identification for your child
  • Need cognitive documentation for a school placement decision
  • Suspect a twice-exceptional (2e) profile — high ability alongside a learning or attention difference
  • Are an adult who wants to understand your own cognitive strengths
  • Want a clear, professional report rather than a single number out of context

Cognitive testing describes a profile of strengths — it isn't a verdict on a person's worth or potential. We interpret results in context, with care.

What the process looks like

From standardized measures to a usable report

  1. Free consult. A brief conversation to clarify your goal — gifted screening, placement, or cognitive understanding.
  2. Intake & background. A short history covering relevant academic, developmental, and learning context.
  3. Standardized cognitive testing. Administration of validated IQ measures in a calm, structured setting.
  4. Scoring & interpretation. The psychologist scores each index and interprets the full profile in context, including any 2e patterns.
  5. Feedback session. We walk through the results together in plain language and discuss what they mean.
  6. Written report. You receive a detailed report you own, suitable for sharing with schools and programs.

Pricing & transparency

Simple self-pay, no surprises

Gifted and cognitive (IQ) testing is priced individually and confirmed during your free consultation, billed as transparent self-pay. Without insurance gatekeeping, there's no waitlist, full privacy over the records, and a senior clinician's attention throughout.

Why self-pay works in your favor

  • No insurance waitlist — testing on your timeline, ahead of deadlines
  • Records stay private, not in an insurer's file
  • A senior clinician's attention from start to finish

Good Faith Estimate

Before any testing begins, you'll receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing — your right under the federal No Surprises Act. Clear costs, agreed up front.

Questions

Gifted & cognitive testing FAQ

Will testing guarantee my child gets into a gifted program?

No. Each program sets its own eligibility criteria and makes its own decisions. The evaluation provides accurate, professional cognitive documentation to bring to that process — it can't guarantee an outcome.

Do you test adults as well as children?

Yes. Cognitive (IQ) testing is available for adults who want to understand their cognitive profile, as well as for children pursuing gifted identification or placement.

What is a twice-exceptional (2e) profile?

"Twice-exceptional" describes someone with high cognitive ability who also has a learning, attention, or other difference. Cognitive testing can help reveal these patterns so support and enrichment are both addressed.

Is IQ testing done in person or online?

Format depends on the specific measures and the person being tested. We'll confirm what your evaluation involves at the consult; in-person testing is available by appointment.
